Modern America

“All men are created equal.” –Declaration of Independence

“… No religion test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.” –Article 6 of the U.S. Constitution

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or publishing the free exercise thereof” –First Amendment of the U.S. Bill of Rights

To the American Citizen:

Do you agree with all of the quotes? If you really are an American then yes should be your only option. If you said no you just rejected important principles that founded our country.
Do you agree with the ideas of the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and our Declaration as a whole? If you said yes then our Fathers would be proud to say the least; if you said no, I don’t know how you consider yourself an American.
So if you agreed to both, have you read any of them or know their ideas or applied them to your own life? Yes; then read the following questions. No; you are not an American.

If our nation isn’t supposed to favor then why is christianity the exception?
Why do our presidents swear to a bible on their inauguration?
Why does our currency state “In god We Trust”?
Why does our pledge state “One Nation Under god”?
Do any know that the change of the currency and pledge occurred during the Red Scare, a time of paranoia and fear of nuclear warfare and the end of days?

Because we are a christian nation, is this why religion is tax exempt?
Why do certain religions ask for money?
Isn’t religion a form of philosophy that aids in achieving true happiness and the only thing you should offer is your will?
Why is it that Pat Robertson, the richest evangelical christian, has donated very little or nothing and uses slave labor in Africa for his blood diamonds?
Doesn't the church's exemption from taxes and Robertson portray Greed-one of the seven deadly sins?

Because we are a christian nation, is god’s word state law whether you are religious or atheist?
What happened to separation of state and church?
Is this why there is hate and prejudice against the homosexual community?
But if everyone is made by god’s image, then those who hate homosexuals reject god’s work?
Since god’s word is state law, whether you are religious or atheist, does this remind you of a monarchy?

Because we are a christian nation, it’s okay for me to wear a rosary in public but I can’t dress like a muslim and read the qur’an? even if the First Amendment gives me the right?
Am I prohibited from doing as so because of the labels and stereotypes this culture has received ever since 9/11?
Will I have a high chance of physical and verbal harassment from ignorant, lower class people?
What happened to luke 6:31?
Do they even pray? read the bible? go to church?
Do you want the hypocritical and the sanctimonious having a say in our country?

Because we are a christian nation, is our Constitution becoming meaningless?

  1. I liked the way you set up your post :) The question and answer portion caught my interest; and you bluntness made me laugh: if you say "no, you are not american." The questions you addressed to the us "americans" brought up many holes, that had me question the interpretations of the constitution. Overall, good post! It was a very engaging :D

  2. This was a very interesting read. But you have to understand that at the time period the founding father's and most everyone in government were christian, which is why many religious symbols can be found in government. And as for the last bit of the post, the government protects freedom of religion and expression, and enforces laws to protect those being discriminated in labor, and will allow you to dress like a muslim and read whatever you like. Government isn't what persecutes those different then the majority, society does. And there is a fine line between governmental ideals and societal action. Either way this was a creatively crafted piece and you did a great job getting your point across! :)

  3. Really diggin your post! Reminds me of the post I just posted :P when it comes to religion ...especially Christianity,it's everywhere! But when it comes to the morals and selfless it's no where.
Its amazing how much Christianity is embedded in many government concepts but the actual goodness is not.
    Good job!
    Love this post (:

  4. In my personal opinion Edder, this is one of the best blogs I have read. I completely agree with the flawed philosophy of religion and the hypocrisy that the government places upon it. All of your arguments are valid and logical( the best kind to me). Your use of examples helps pull this post together to make your views all the more clear. Government and churches should be kept separate based on the fact that they are too powerful when combined and have too much deciding factor in swaying peoples opinions, people should be able to make their own decisions. Keep up the free thinking Edder, become a disciple of Socrates.

  5. "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion..." - Treaty of Tripoli 1796. The United States is not a Christian nation, but that isn't to say that those who practice the religion will not try to enforce their will upon others. Although the United States may not be a Christian nation it still has a Christian majority. It is these people that added "Under God" to the Pledge of Allegiance, look it up it the phrase was never in there originally. Other than I completely agree with what you are saying, good post.

  6. Our governement has been quite hypocrital throughout history with it's doctrines. Take the first quote you stated for example. Since when have all men been treated equal in America's history? Let me know of the day Whites become enslaved because of their colour and are forced to work fields. Let me know of the day homosexuals have the right to marry just like heterosexuals do in every state of the U.S. Let me know of the day when Hipsanics specifically, cease to be deported from the state of Arizona under law. Let me know of the day when we are all equal.
